Zippo & The Followers

Born in May 2021, the group took shape from Enzo Zippo’s idea to offer a musical show that moved away from the widespread trend of dance and active participation as the mainstream of musical entertainment. By bringing the focus back to listening, in a more concert-like dimension, through a refined musical offering performed strictly live, the show the group presents—aptly titled “When I Was Young”—develops into a performance that spans a very important, and in many ways seminal, period of music and society at large.
The period between the early ’70s and the late ’80s was a hotbed of ideas that, in the musical field, took shape through the birth of thousands of original groups that left a timeless artistic legacy, still valid, alive, and active despite changing fashions and trends.
Enzo Zippo’s idea to offer a show tracing the fundamental stages of that period had to include musicians who had lived through and experienced that era, breathing in its atmosphere and making it their own. All local musicians, active in the Triveneto region, some also in the Milan scene. All professionals with many years of music under their belts, thousands of stages, and major collaborations.
Following the breakup of CLIMA, a group active in the region in the first half of the ’80s, a trio took shape consisting of Enzo Zippo on piano and vocals, Mauro Kellner on drums, and Maurizio Cuzzi on electric bass—all musicians who have known each other very well since the ’70s. They performed in many clubs across the region, notably as the resident band of the then-famous XX Secolo in Sistiana/Visogliano. The trio disbanded, and Zippo and Kellner moved to Milan, but the bond remained. It was inevitable for Enzo Zippo to involve them in a project where “their” music—the music they had lived and breathed—was the protagonist. Later, a fourth member joined: Gabriele Recluta on electric guitar who, despite being younger, matches the group in musical taste and sensitivity, in addition to being a musician of proven talent, well-established on the regional scene.
